Create a New Habit

Set a time in your daily routine to meditate for the next twenty-one days. Practice meditating for ten minutes each day. Let go of attachment to where your mind is and simply sit with what is present:

  1. Set up your space to meditate free of distractions.

  2. Set the time. Dusk or dawn are the most favorable times, but select any time to make it easy for you to adopt a meditation practice for the next twenty-one days.

  3. Make it a habit. Try to meditate at the same time each day. For me, our meditation time is before we get out of bed.

  4. Find a comfortable seated position. The psychic current needs to travel unimpeded from the base of the spine to the top of the head. This will help center the mind and encourage concentration. (Another option is to take a silent nature walk each morning or evening.)

  5. Breathe. Start by observing the breath.

  6. Choose concentration. Choose to keep listening to the breath and holding your posture. You can scan your body from head to toe to keep your focus.

  7. Notice how you feel after twenty-one days, and see if you want to adopt this as an ongoing practice in your healthy and happy life.

Stream-of-Consciousness Journaling

Start a gratitude journal or journal with the new moon and full moon. Journaling can help us process and release emotions.

“When I feel the need to connect or express myself, I often turn to introspection.

I start this process with two tools—a pen and a piece of paper.

My goal is simple: just write out everything I’m feeling.

It helps me to know there’s no time limit on this process and there’s no page length requirement. It’s a way for me to hold space for myself and acknowledge what I’m feeling.

I don’t hold back, I let it all out on the paper.

Every single time, I experience a shift.”
